| | | | | | | What's important? | Øyvind Grøndalen | What is important when selecting searchplatform?
Search, as it is often implemented today is quite often simple; a user got an idea about the information he or she needs. The most common way of finding this is to write one or more keywords in a textfield, which occurs in or describe the domain the user is interested in. | The keywords are then sent to the search engine for processing. The search engine finds where the words occurs and displays the result list. Usually, this is a list of documents, hopefully sorted in a way where the most relevant results are on the top.
This type of search is limited!
The problems are numerous. A word (or a variation) must exist in the document. The user ought to know the domain / topic. One word can have several meanings. It can be frustrating for the user if he/ she don't know the exact word that describes what he/ she is looking for or the user doesn't get any hits since the keyword used is too general.
Because text is not knowledge, search ought to be contextual! Knowledge is more than a list of documents containing both irrelevant and relevant hits. The value of information increase when it is organized around:
- Business processes
- Activities
- Tasks
- Projects
- Products or/ and services
- Domains/ topics
- Author
The hits should be categorized in a way that makes sense for the users and thereby creates value for the organization.
| | | | | | | | | |
The quantity of information, which can be caracterized as as unstructured is huge. Just think of the number of emails each and one of us have written, how many documents we have produced and the number of presentation we have made, the number of cases we have handled, how many projects we have participated in, etc. The amount of unstructured information is growing with a tremendous speed.
Coupled with a gradually rise in employe turnover
Kontakt oss i dag!
| | | | | | | | Arne Jørgensen, CTO | | Relevance search - advanced search with text reckognition
A good search engine must be capable of supporting two key functions; finding the information the user needs and make it available.
Traditional search tools as we know them have significant constraints, which have especially major impacts on enterprise search. To illustrate this we can use Google as we all know. When we type in a word or two in the search field in Google we sometimes get more than a million hits in return. The first problem is the way that the hits are presented to us- in which order. By large sorting is based on factors indicating the popularity of a page; how many pages have links to this page, the traffic on the server hosting the page, etc. This makes sense in an internet context, but will not be very useful when searching internally where information we are looking can be found in emails or documents stored on a fileshare. A long hitlist will not be valuable to the user if the hits are presented in a illogical order - nobody will take the time to go through millions of hits.
The other problem is related to the actual searchresult. When we get a huge number of hits we normally will have focus on the first page with hits, maybe the second one, but very seldom we bother to look at pages beyond that. If we immediately don't find what we are looking for we usually add another word to our search string and press search again in order to narrow down the hitlist. If we then add a new word we might end up with a list that is managble. The weakness of such approach is that every time we add another word we have to be sure that the word exists in the document we are looking for, otherwise we might end up filter out what we actually are looking for.
IntelliSearch Relevancesearch is capable of solving this issue since words do not need to present in the document. At the same time it will sort the document so the most relevant documents are presented at the top of the list.
An intelligent combination of selection and prioritization are making this problem become nonexistent. When all documents within a company is indexed and made searchable will the search engine recongnize all words used and where they appear as well as in which documents they exist. This enables the search engine to evaluate the relevance of the documents in terms of the words used in the search string. Common words such as and, I, or, not, etc. are used in very many documents and do not make any sense in this context. On the other hand will words such as customername, subject related word, etc. be very descriptive. The search engine are using knowledge about presence of words in relation to words used in the search string and the accuracy of the words when sorting in order to give the most relevant documents the highest priority so they are the first one the user will see.
This makes it possible to paste a whole paragraph from a document into the search field and thereby identify the most relevant documents compared with the search phrase. This also makes it possible to use natural language, so the user can type normal sentences and get meaningful results returned. This is very useful to provide visitors on a company website.
| | | | | | | | Øyvind Grøndalen | Websites, both external and internal, is the place where enterprises find it necessary to have good search capabilities. This is so that the customer, own employees and interested groups can have a positive experience and find the website useful. | Search is a natural part of most websites. Search is also a focused area for many web editors. Most web editors are not pleased with the simple search service that comes with the web solution because they know their users expect more.
IntelliSearch has an advanced search solution for websites that gives the visitors a considerable better experience. Important areas are a superior usage of relevance, the option to categorize and use of drilldown and the technology to group results together.
The IntelliSearch solution can match all publishing systems. At the same time we tailor solutions for EPiServer and SharePoint. Vi also have components that give good search solutions within e-commerce and different catalogs. | | | | | | | | | | On-demand insight is crucial to succeed, but the knowledge you need is hidden away in separate containers of unstructured content and structured data. To put the information together the demand for manual labor or costly IT-resources is often high.
The moment the information is put in in a system and analyzed it has lost its context and relevance. Searches are frequently made on abnormalities and events that do not exist in the core systems of the enterprise. Rumors on the Internet, bad product reviews, news about competitors, bad judgment or changes in external agreements could affect the demand.
Business intelligence module delivers fast and extensive insight into information that is necessary to understand the cause and effect from sources internal, external or combined
To identify new possibilities to maximize revenue, reduce implementation, cost associated with support and infrastructure, increase satisfaction and loyalty, create a competitive edge, you will have to collect and automate deliverance of all information that is crucial to your enterprise. | | | | | | | | Øyvind Grøndalen | Even with a good search platform there isn’t always a guarantee that the information being searched after is useful – especially if you don’t know if the information exists! Imagine yourself working on a document in Word and you have an assistance that discretely inform you that another document is found that has great similarity with the one you are working on and a project document that contains information that is highly relevant with what you are writing. | The Knowledge Assistant is all about contributing knowledge to co-workers, increase reusability of existing knowledge, increase quality by improving what already exist rather than inventing the wheel all over again and not at least by saving time. With the Knowledge Assistant the enterprise moves away from the fact that searches are done as a surplus activity in a busy workday to a more proactive use by offering co-workers relevant information when they need it, in the situation they need it.

The Knowledge Assistant follows what the user is working on and automatically searches for information that is relevant. The Knowledge Assistant does this without the user even thinking about if the information exist, if it is worth the time used to search for or what kind of search words that should be used. The Knowledge Assistant uses Relevance-technology found in the IntelliSearch search platform to look through all of the documents, emails, internal websites etc in the enterprise that the user has access to in order to identify what is relevant.
The Knowledge Assistent also gives the user easy and direct access to search information in the enterprise by being reachable on the taskbar. To insure that the Knowledge Assistant is experienced as not being to “disturbing” the user can set how frequently the Knowledge Assistant should perform searches and the how much relevance the user should get feedback on. | | | | | | | | Arne Jørgensen, CTO | IntelliSearch is the leading interdependent supplier of search solutions in the Nordic region. Technology has been under development since 1999 and has received several awards and positive reviews by industrial analytics and experts. Among these are the ranking of one of the best search platforms in the Gartners Magic Quadrant.

| | | | | | | | Lasse Ruud | "We have a strong focus on streamlining the processes in this company!", they said, in a medium sized Norwegian company that we were in contact with. In retrospect, it turned out that nobody had thought about how much time that was lost, during a work day, looking for internal information. | Sometimes I wonder if it's the concept itself, or the understanding of it thats confusing or limiting, but it is obvious that there are great savings in quickly find own corporate information. Or - quite simply, not have to write it again!
Unfortunately, we are probably built so that it is easier to see that you save something on a pricecut on a product, than to make savings in the efficiency of working time.
When I drive past an office premises in the evening, with silhouettes of heads inside, I think that the probability is high that the person is editing a Word document to make it look good, and / or searching for important information that he know is there somewhere.
Where we have implemented our search solution, the biggest surprise is often that one finds a number of different versions of the same document. This means that not only search time is reduced, but also the "write again" time is reduced.
Search is therefore perhaps a simplification, but it is obvious that this is about both knowledge management, retrieval and especially pure efficiency.
Incredible much time is lost out there!
Please contact us, and let us help you to bring out a hidden fortune!

Over 4000 treff - litt å velge i! La oss se... Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Costa Brava, Riga, Riga, Costa Brava...
